A Legacy of Excellence and Cultural Preservation at
Pretoria Chinese School
Founded in 1934 by the Young Chinese Cultural League and the Chinese Community of Pretoria, the Pretoria Chinese School has a rich history of providing quality education while preserving Chinese culture.
Originally established in Boom Street, the school faced political and segregational challenges but thrived, thanks to the community's dedication and the school’s foundational values of Humility, Discipline, and Respect.
With the Apartheid era coming to its end, new opportunities arose. In 1991, the school expanded from a primary to a high school, welcoming students from diverse backgrounds, including Poland, Russia, Korea, Taiwan, and China. This expansion underscored our commitment to embracing multiculturalism and extending the benefits of Chinese language and culture.
To accommodate our growing student body, we relocated to a spacious 3.48-hectare property in Wingate Park in 1993. The Chinese Community generously raised R2.7 million to construct a 22-classroom block, a computer center, and a science laboratory. Today, Pretoria Chinese School continues to grow, offering exceptional education and fostering cultural appreciation in a modern, well-equipped environment, all while upholding our core principles of humility, discipline, and respect.
