Academic Curriculum
At Pretoria Chinese School, academic excellence is at the heart of our mission. We believe a strong academic foundation empowers students to think critically, solve problems, and engage meaningfully with the world around them.
Our academic curriculum is thoughtfully designed to challenge and inspire, with a focus on depth of understanding, curiosity, and the development of key skills across all learning areas.
With passionate teachers and supportive environments, we nurture each learner’s potential and encourage a love for lifelong learning. By fostering academic growth, we prepare students to succeed in further studies and to contribute thoughtfully and confidently to society.

Preschool Curriculum
The PCS Preschool curriculum is designed to nurture curiosity, creativity, and early learning through play-based activities.
We incorporate age-appropriate learning themes that introduce foundational concepts in language, numeracy, and cultural awareness.
This holistic programme ensures children build confidence and a love of learning as they prepare for the transition to Junior Preparatory.

Junior Primary Curriculum
The PCS Junior Preparatory Phase will follow the CAPS curriculum outlined by the Department of Basic Education.
The school further enriches and extends this curriculum with the Time2Read Programme and Abacus Maths Programme, as well as a Singapore Science programme.
Each grade integrates its day and subjects through themes. The themes for the term are sent home during the first week of each term.

Senior Primary Curriculum
The PCS Senior Preparatory Phase follows the CAPS curriculum set by the Department of Basic Education, enhanced to maintain high academic standards.
We strive to align with IEB schools, with our teachers actively participating in Independent School cluster meetings to stay current.
Grade 7 students complete the standardised IEB MATCH assessment annually, while Grade 6 learners write the Core Skills Assessment.

High School Curriculum
The PCS College follows the CAPS curriculum alongside the IEB Subject Assessment Guidelines, with Grade 12 students writing the National Senior Certificate (NSC) through the IEB. Our teachers attend annual IEB conferences and participate in marking final exams to maintain high standards. Grade 9 students undertake subject selection to tailor their studies for Senior Phase and beyond. Regular cycle tests prepare students effectively for major exams without disrupting class time, with all dates shared via d6 Connect. Attendance at all assessments is compulsory, with strict policies on absences to ensure fairness. Termly reports track progress, and the matric year is focused on consistent assessment to build a strong final portfolio.
